This article explains four key parameters of CNC vertical lathes to help you avoid purchasing pitfalls, ensure you get the equipment that best suits your production needs, and maximize your investment value!

Common pitfalls: Buying too small will result in insufficient workpiece capacity; buying too large will waste your budget.
How to Choose:
X-Axis (Diameter): Ensure the maximum outer diameter of the workpiece is covered + a safety distance (+100mm).
Z-Axis (Height): Consider the clamping height + tool length.
Worktable Load Capacity: Heavy workpieces (such as wind turbine flanges) require a capacity of 10 tons or more to avoid deformation.
Common Pitfalls: Spindle stalling during low-speed steel cutting, or insufficient power during high-speed aluminum alloy machining.
How to Choose:
Roughing steel machining: Spindle power ≥ 22kW, torque ≥ 1000Nm.
Fine machining aluminum alloys: Speed ≥ 3000rpm (high-speed electric spindles are optional).
Variable Frequency Drive/Direct Drive Spindle: Direct drive is preferred for high-precision machining (no belt wear).
Industry Standard: ISO 1940-1 spindle dynamic balancing grade G1 (high precision) or G2.5 (general purpose).
Common Pitfalls: "High precision" advertised, but actual machining tolerances exceed specifications!
Key Parameters:
Repeatability: At least ±0.005mm (±0.003mm required for fine machining).
Roundness/End Runout: ≤0.01mm (≤0.005mm required for aviation parts). Test Report: Request the manufacturer to provide laser interferometer test data (reject "theoretical values"!).
Tips for avoiding pitfalls: Push the workbench manually. If there is noticeable wobbling, the guide rail clearance is excessive!
Common pitfalls: Rapid guide rail wear, resulting in a sharp drop in accuracy after three years!
How to Choose:
Heavy Cutting: Roller Guides (strong load capacity) + Rack and Pinion Drive (such as the Rexroth solution).
High Precision: Linear Motors + Hydrostatic Guides (frictionless, long life).
Maintenance Cost: Linear guide replacement costs three times as much as hard guides!
